About Nanjing
Understand Nanjing with both city context and first-hand perspective before you visit: history, climate, food culture, and practical decisions that shape a smooth trip.
City Overview
Why This Site Exists
I am a native Chinese software engineer working in the internet industry. I travel widely across China and built this site because Nanjing left a lasting impression on me.
After multiple trips to Nanjing, I realized many international visitors need practical guidance they can actually execute, not generic city overviews. This project translates my real travel notes into clear planning support.
My goal is simple: share honest local experience with foreign friends who want to understand Nanjing deeply, travel efficiently, and avoid common first-time friction.
History
Nanjing, meaning 'Southern Capital', has served as the capital of multiple Chinese dynasties and governments. With over 2,500 years of history, it was the capital during the Ming Dynasty, the Republic of China, and other periods. The city witnessed some of China's most pivotal historical events and preserves an extraordinary wealth of cultural heritage.
Climate
Nanjing has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and humid, while winters are cold and damp. Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) offer the most pleasant weather for sightseeing.
Best Time to Visit
The best times to visit Nanjing are spring (March to May) when plum blossoms and cherry flowers bloom, and autumn (September to November) when the weather is mild and the city is adorned with golden ginkgo trees. Avoid the summer heat (July-August) and the crowded National Day holiday (October 1-7).
